Course content
Lessons: - Synthesis and purification of inorganic compounds (Na2S2O3, K2MnO4, NaHCO3) - Synthesis and characterization of coordination compounds (tris(acetylacetonato)cobalt (III), Cobalt (III) sodium nitrite - Reactions of basic inorganic ions - Synthesis and idencifications of selected organic compounds - Esterification (preparation, isolation, characterization and chemical reactivity of organic esters - Multistep organic synthesis (methyl red, orange II) - Isolation of organic compounds from natural materials (eugenol) - Spectroscopy in qualitative and quantitative analysis of inorganic compounds (identifications and quantifying of heavy metals using UV/VIS and AAS spectroscopies) - Spectroscopy in qualitative analysis of organic compounds (identifications of organic compounds using IR spectroscopy) - Application of basic physical-chemical methods for environmental pollution analysis (UV/VIS spectrophotometry) - Thin Layer Chromatography (determination of sugars and vitamins in fruit juice, quinine ina medicine, B vitamins in yeasts) - Electrophoresis (protein separation using discontinuous electrophoresis in a polyacrylamide gel) - Gas Chromatography (determination and identification of an unknown compound in a sample using Gas Chromatography) - Potentiometric neutralization titration (determination of acetic acid content in vinegar, C vitamin in Celascon, determination of phosphoric acid in Coca-Cola) - Capture and determination of nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere - Determination of Zn in food supplement - Rectification of methanol/ethanol mixture

Learning outcomes
Laboratory practice is focused on acquirement of basic laboratory methods in inorganic and organic synthesis, familiarization and mastering elementary physical and chemical methods, which are particularly used for analysis of basic parameters of environment quality.
Apply and practice fundamental procedures and methods of the chemical research.
