First the structure of therapeutics and their interactions with organisms will be discussed at a general level, consequentially individual groups of therapeutics will be discussed in details (types, structure, action mechanisms, properties, particular substances). This course is designed for students of the Faculty of Science. The fundamental knowledge of chemistry, at least, especially that of organic chemistry, is expected. ZCLL2 extends knowledge from lectures ZCLL respectively ZCLL1 1. General pharmacology a) Pharmacokinetics Influence of the organism on the therapeutics: adsorption, membrane permeation, distribution, metabolism, excretion b) Pharmacodynamics Influence of the therapeutics on the body: therapeutics with non-specific action vs. therapeutics with specific action (drug target structures) c) Adverse effects -- classification, types d) Therapeutics interactions -- pharmaceutical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions 2. General pharmaceutical chemistry the subject, theraputics development, nomenclature, new therapeutics sources structural factors, structure modifications physico-chemical properties of therapeu 3th antidiabetics cause of the disease, type 1 and 2 type a) Insulin and its derivatives b) Oral antidiabetics - der. sulfonylurea, metformin, thiazolidinediones, glinides 4th H2 antihistamines b) selective parasympatholytics c) Proton pump inhibitors 5th Antihypertensive Diagnosis and classification of hypertension a) Diuretics - thiazide, loop, potassium-sparing b) Calcium channel blockers c) Beta-blockers d) Substances acting on the renin-angiotensin system - ACE inhibitors, ARBs 6th Cough, anti-asthma medicines a) Antitussives, expectorants - x wet dry cough b) Corticosteroids, der. theophylline, a bronchodilator (betasympatomimetika) 7thAutonomic vegetative system

Learning outcomes
Ability to define main concepts, describe fundamental approaches applied to chemistry of drugs.

Prerequisites
unspecified
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam
Students must know the structures of fundamental therapeutics (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid, paracetamol, ibuprofen), they must understand the relation between the structure and action, they must be able to describe main concepts
