Bioinformatics is a field, which uses IT methods for storage, analysis and visualization of large collections of biological data, i.e. from sequenation projects such as human genome project HUGO or following sequenation projects (ENCODE, Million Genomes, etc.). Bioinformatics thus enables us to read biological data and it helps us to understand them in fields such as gene function and regulation, and analysis of sequences in large. Lectures are focused on explanation of basic algorithms and databases of bioinformatics. Exercises are focused on on hand usage of available bioinformatics tools enabling students to cope with basic bioinformatic analysis of given problem. 1. Introduction to bioinformatics 2. Storage of biological sequence data 3. Sequence alignment - principles, programmes and interpretation 4. Databases for molecular biology 5. Gene prediction 6. Phylogenetic analysis, evolutionary trees 7. Introduction to systems biology 8. Genomes 9. Bioinformatic tools 10. Statistical methods in bioinformatics
